英国作家，创造了受欢迎及赞赏的哈利波特系列。预计出版七集的哈利波特系列第一集，《哈利波特与哲人之石》（Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone，美国书名为《哈利波特与神秘魔法石》〔Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone〕），出版於1997年。透过栩栩如生的描述及富想像力的情节，一个孤独的孤儿发现自己拥有魔法并进入霍格华兹魔法学校（Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry）学习巫术，成为一个不凡的哈利波特英雄。这本书甫推出即成功，同时吸引了儿童（最初设定的读者）及成人。续集《哈利波特和消失的密室》（Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, 1998）、《哈利波特和阿兹卡班的逃犯》（Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaba, 1999）以及《哈利波特和火盃的考验》（Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 2000），都成为畅销书籍，根据第一集改编成的电影於2001年上映。罗琳因有功於重新引燃儿童阅读的兴趣，而於2001年成为英国皇家会员一员。

(born 1965) British author, creator of the popular and critically acclaimed Harry Potter series. The first book in the proposed seven-volume series, [book]Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone (U.S. title [book]Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone), was published in 1997. Featuring vivid descriptions and an imaginative story line, it followed the unlikely hero Harry Potter, a lonely orphan who discovers that he is actually a wizard and enrolls in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book was an immediate success, appealing to both children (its intended audience) and adults.
